Lviv Explosion Causes Casualties in Western Ukraine
The Ukrainian National Police says a store break-in is reported around 12:30 a.m. local time (2230 GMT Saturday), and an explosion occurs after a patrol team arrives. “It was previously established that improvised explosive devices detonated. A 23-year-old policewoman died as a result of the explosions,” the statement notes. A second blast is heard when another patrol crew arrives.
Investigators, explosives technicians, and other specialized services respond to the scene, providing medical assistance to the injured. The incident is officially defined as a “terrorist attack,” and criminal proceedings are initiated under Ukraine’s Criminal Code, with a pre-trial investigation conducted by the regional anti-terrorism service.
Maksym Kozytskyi states on Telegram that perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison and possible confiscation of property, also describing the attack as “terrorist” in nature. He later updates that the number of injured has risen to 25, with some in serious condition.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy says via X that Ihor Klymenko reports the detention of a suspect in connection with the attack. Authorities have not yet identified the individual responsible, and no group has claimed responsibility.
